It's been an interesting couple of days. I've been thinking about the one thing I've regretted the most and what struck me is that it wasn't as easy a decision to make as hindsight made it out to be. In fact it was really, really, really hard. And I think I might actually be glad I didn't face it back then. I needed to run around. Everything wasn't perfect, but it turned out OK. I'm a much better person for it even if sooo many things went wrong. Because so many things went wrong. So I'm going to put this one last regret to rest and go do the hardest thing I have ever done. Wish me luck!

Fine Again - Seether |
] |
We're almost finished with a release cycle at work. I wish I could say that my enhancement went as planned, finished with plenty of time left, etc.... But that's not quite what happened. Luckily I did finish just a half a day after code complete. It could have been a lot worse. I am really happy about the functionality I was able to add because even though it's not complex, it's just plain cool and I was able re-use things in a way I never would have thought of by myself. Unfortunately I can't tell you exactly what I did because it's Top Secret. Or I'm just being obnoxious. Take your pick.
Other than that, I think I might finally buy a bike this month.
I picked up Seether's new acoustic album, One Cold Night, over the weekend and just got a chance to to it today. I am really impressed by how rich the sound is, definitely worth the money if you happen to be even a casual fan.

It's been an interesting day. I've actually been working again. I'm mean working-working, writing code. Which is a surprise because I kind of stopped there for a while. It's a project for work but it's still been a long time since anything has held my interest long enough to get me thinking again. And you know what? I'm not so bad off as I thought. Hopefully this will officially end my rut and I will be able to move on and do something neat now. I have more to say, but I'm tired and hungry. Food takes priority at the moment so that I don't return to my former frigid state.

update this sometime. Hopefully soonish. Oh, and for anyone who's nuts enough to try, TortoiseSVN has a really interesting build system. Took me like an hour to setup.... Wind is nice. I don't know how someone could not like a windy day. But I have no furniture. That might invalidate my opinion.

Still the Same - Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band |

So what have I been up to? Not much really. Played a fair bit of DS2 (http://www.gaspowered.com/ds2/news.php) with Beth and Tony. I'm actually enjoying it a fair bit which is kind of surprising since I seem to not like focusing on things for long periods of time right now (playing for 5 hours is a long time). Just installed Ubuntu 5.10 so I could try out GNOME 2.12. Definitely worth the download, they've fixed a bunch of annoying things (like automatically refreshing the foot menu when something is installed) and the level of integration with the core Linux system continues to increase. I was pretty worried that the cairo (http://cairographics.org) integration make things slower or have other detrimental effects but that is not that case. If possible, fonts look even sharper and I haven't noticed any slow downs. The API is also _very_ nice. It's cake to use cairo from within GTK+ and that has really helped me visualize some of the things I'm doing at work. I could go on and on, but I think I'll stop here for a bit.

Bad News Bears was great. Don't think I ever saw the original. Make sure you go see The Island as well. Not much else is happening, work is busy again but I've got a better hang of things now. I think I'll probably keep gradually improving. I still enjoy it, which is very good. Looking forward to Dungeon Siege II. : ) That is all and nothing much.
Enjoy the irony of my mood and music. And from my past, I wonder if you still like Don Quixote? : )

Fishing was fun. Got to the canoe renting place at 8. Iin the water by 9. Floated along down the river a bit and fished until 5 and then realized we were way upstream from where we were getting picked up and had to really pick up the pace. Finally made it to the pick up point just before seven. I caught 7 small fishies (2 small mouth, 1 rock bass, 1 blue-gill-type-relation and 3 really big minows. ; ) Only problem of the day was that my allergies started acting up bad ~5. I miss the days when I could stay outside as long as I wanted to. : ( Allergy medicine seems to be kicking in now, time to relax. And hope I don't get any more dizzy. : )

How You Remind Me - Nickelback |

It was a _really_ long day at work today. Just seemed to go on forever. The only real notable event was a fire alarm so we all got a free 30 min break. Other than that it was apparently 'Date Day'. Never heard of that one before so I'm assuming it's a company thing. Not that I'm on top of the obscure events calendar. Off to read until it's time to go to bed.

Things work just fine as long as one uses the Cygwin GDB settings and have it stop automatically at the beginning of main. I had really wanted to use gdb 6.3 for mingw. Oh well, this should be good enough to 'crawl' along for now.

WOOT. Coffee shop is _fun_. So looking forward to tomorrow. Haven't been to a concert in years. I just generally don't get around to actually ordering tickets, etc... Makes it kind of hard to go. But this is _Irish Punk_. Unmissable.
So I've actually had a little more energy this week than I have in a while. Not enough to have acutally done anything productive, but I did setup Eclipse and the CDT to see if it was decent. It is much better than decent. It is really impressive and I will be using it as my main IDE ... as soon as I get it to not mangle the paths it passes to gdb. : /
If that goes well then I will look at doing some work on MPlayer again. What I have to do is such a chore that I plan on putting it off as long as possible until I'm in one of my must-code-or-die moods.
Off to bed. Need to go get the brakes replaced to'morrow morn. *sqeeeeeeeeek* : p

On a whim, I went to see it after work. I really liked Shaolin Soccer, but this was _so_ much better. Lots of puns and jabs at other things to keep me happy.
TIme to go back to bed. More later.

Or the lack thereof. It's not so much that I've forgotten to update as I've been too lazy to actually make myself sit down and think of what to write. Life isn't particularly exciting right now; basically just get up, go to work, come home, make dinner, goof off for a bit then go to bed and start all over the next day. I'm sure you know the story.
I upgraded to GNOME 2.10 the other night. Much happiness about that as it is a big improvement over 2.8. The next release should be even better because of all the nifty GTK+ things that will be available. Can't wait.
Now off to go eat before Steven's birthday party.

Gone Away - The Offspring |

So it was a rough day. Not partiularly hard, except not having the time or the ability to do everything I needed to the second I felt it needed done. I've always loved this song, though there is no one in particular that it makes me think of. Tomorrow is Sushi night. I probably shouldn't spend the money... but SUSHI. Hopefully it will be a good place to take everyone to later. Either way, I've been craving sushi, so it's just what I need. Well, I was going to write more, but seem to be Lost for Words. Maybe more to'morrow?

has been going pretty well. Spending my 40 hours at work every week, then coming home and enjoying the tons of free time I have now. Yesterday I re-started a project I have to finish soon. Having GTK+ on windows, and up-to-date versions to boot is simply the best. I could write more, but it's bedtime and I think I need to work myself into writing more frqeuently. Ardneh out.
